Brand New Engine: This is a new engine that has never been installed. 

A Friend’s Restoration Project:  It was originally intended for a complete restoration on a 1975 project car by a friend of mine who wanted to relive his youth.  During the time he had it, he ended up getting interested in racing big block American cars and never got back to the project… after five years, he sold me the engine, the car, and all its parts.

Saved for My Own Future Needs:  I've saved the engine and many other parts as "spares" for my two MGB's – I was going to install it in my 1978, but ended up doing a high-performance rebuild... and now it's taking up a lot of garage space.

Fits 1962 - 1980:  Although this is an “18V” engine from a 1975 MGB, it will work in ANY year (1962 – 1980), as the external block dimensions didn’t change during those years. 

Professionally Built:  This engine was re-built by Barton Brothers, one of the best re-builders in El Paso, Texas – a company who has built many performance engines for this friend (however, this is a “stock” re-build).

All New Internal Parts:  It includes all NEW internal parts, such as pistons, rings, bearings, valves, tappets, push rods, oil pump, water pump, reground cam, reground crank shaft, and all other internal parts.

Non-Smoggable Head:  The head is from a pre-68 model. 1968 was the first year that the air pump was installed. This head was a Moss part number 451-518 ($937.95) CYLINDER HEAD, new, with valves & springs, 1962-'67. Thus, it does NOT have the four holes to hook up an manifold from an air pump. 

Block Serial Number:  The block, however, is an 18V, serial number 18V797AE-L4494.

Doesn’t Include “Bolt On” External Parts:  It does NOT include a starter, alternator, carburetor, smog equipment, or oil hoses (it does include the oil filter attachment

True Value:  It is built on a .020” overbored 1975 block and ALL internals are new - the new internal parts are worth as much as my price on this engine.  The workmanship on the re-build is worth as much more.

This Is a BRAND NEW Engine at a Bargain Price:  A re-built MGB engine like this typically takes about $2,000 to $3,000 in parts and another $1,500 to $2,500 or so in labor).   My local mechanic in Reno – who’s been working on MGBs and other British cars for over 30 years – charges $5,000 for a complete rebuild like this.

This Engine Is for the QUALITY-Seeker:  If you’re looking for a “cheap” engine, this one isn’t for you.  If you’re looking for a quality rebuild – a $4,000 to $5,000 engine with all new internals – this is it.

Optional Transmission(s) Available:  I also have TWO excellent non-overdrive 4-synchro transmissions, one of which came off my own 78 “B” when I changed it out to install an overdrive tranny – thus, I can personally attest to the condition of this one.  These are very reasonably priced – see my website.

Reserve:  My reserve is somewhat close to my Buy It Now price - this engine is a bargain at that price.  I will sell it either on eBay or directly to anyone who contacts me.

Payment Terms:   I am willing to cancel the auction if you wire transfer a down payment so that I receive it at least one full day before the ending of the eBay auction.  $500 down payment is due within 24 hours of auction ending - if down payment is not received, I reserve the right to cancel the auction and re-list the item.  The "balance due" is payable within three days, unless other arrangements are made with me.  Shipping or freight is extra and payable by the Buyer. 

Shipping:  You are responsible for shipping; I will cooperate to asssist.  I recommend you use freight (not UPS), as it’s much less expensive.  I will pallet the engine for an additional $75, using many criss-crossed straps of metal “plumber’s tape” to secure it with screws to an oak pallet, then wrap it with bubble wrap.  I bought an engine palleted like this that was shipped cross country without damage.
